About ThinkingAudit

Why ThinkingAudit?

Having been an internal auditor for most of my working life, I noticed that some auditors and audit teams got caught on an "audit conveyor belt".

I observed teams that were over-reliant on lists of expected controls and weren't sufficiently confident to apply truly risk-based auditing; teams that were so focused on the audit process and completing fields in their audit management software that they were not spending time thinking around the topic and the risks. While internal auditors need to follow a systematic process, if we don't think, we audit by rote or by number and miss the bigger picture.

We all strive to add insight through our work, and to do that we have to take the time to think – to reflect, research, and discuss. ThinkingAudit was created to help teams ensure they have an audit approach that is practical, efficient, and allows time for thinking, and therefore that adds value.
